This week, Taylor Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version), a rerecord of the original Red album from 2012. The reason behind her rerecordings and the "Taylor’s Version" tag began in 2019, when Big Machine Records, Taylor’s record label contract at the time, was acquired by Scooter Braun. This purchase also came with ownership of the masters of her first six studio albums, whom she had been trying to acquire for years. Under this new ownership, she was not allowed to perform or rerecord any songs owned by Big Machine Company and was told that if she wanted to use her music, she must agree to not rerecord any of her songs and stop talking about Braun and Borchetta (CEO of Big Machine Company). Later, Taylor said she would rerecord all 6 albums, and by doing so, she would own her own masters and put her version against the original recordings.

She has completed two of the eight recordings so far, starting with Fearless, released in April earlier this year, and now Red, her version coming out just last Friday on November 12.
